COVID19 and the Bible
Here is a short talk on the Law of Moses of the Old Testament and our hygiene rules of today's pandemic with an Epidemiologist
WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT OUR FUTURE?
The world is currently enduring a pandemic caused by a previously unknown virus. The first death was reported on 11 January and as of 31 March more than 40,000 worldwide have died from Coronavirus.
In this country we are living through circumstances unprecedented in peacetime with all schools and colleges closed, all but essential workers to remain at home with many jobs being lost and companies in serious financial difficulty which is damaging the country’s economy.
There are angry scenes at supermarkets as panic buying leaves shelves empty of food, society is being affected in an unwelcome way and troops have been mobilised to keep essential services operating.
When we couple this with the problem of global warming, of nations amassing arms and becoming more and more aggressive we ask, where is it all leading to?
Some would ask whether this is leading to the end of the world. The answer is an emphatic no. We can say that with utter confidence because of what God has said through his prophet Isaiah in chapter 45 verse 18 “For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.” We can have every confidence that man will not destroy the earth.
So what does the future hold? How is the state of affairs in the world going to be resolved? How are men’s fears going to be removed? Jesus has spoken very clearly of a time when there would be great fear in the world in Luke 21 verse 11 “And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven”. He then goes on to speak of the effect of those fearful sights in verse 26 “Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth….”.
We’re being told that there will be fearful times, but for those who believe in God and his word, the Bible, there is a wonderful hope which gives great comfort to help them through those fearful times.
Jesus says in verse 27 “And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory”. The hope for believers and for the world is that Jesus is going to return to the earth to establish God’s Kingdom on the earth, a Kingdom of peace and righteousness.
Whilst many people’s hearts fail them for fear because of the uncertainty of the future, the believer is encouraged by the signs given to indicate the nearness of Jesus’ return and the wonderful promise of eternal life in God’s Kingdom on the earth.
The Doomsday Clock
The Doomsday Clock on 23rd January 2020 was put to 100 seconds to midnight! Alarming isn't it?
What is The Doomsday Clock? Their web site states.....
The Doomsday Clock is a symbol which represents the likelihood of a man-made global catastrophe. Maintained since 1947 by the members of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists' Science and Security Board, the clock represents an analogy for the threat of global nuclear war.
"This is a dangerous time, but the danger is of our own making. Humankind has invented the implements of apocalypse;"
It is a worrying time to be alive now with strong World leaders not of our choosing. We have little that we can do but to have faith in God's word. There IS a future for our World. The Psalmist speaks of our feelings of hopelessness....
Psalm 42:5 Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation.
What is the future of our World then? John writes in Revelation words from the Lord.....
Rev 21:1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
Rev 21:2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Rev 21:3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.
Rev 21:4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away."
Rev 21:5 And he who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." Also he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."
Our only hope is for the return of Christ to set up God's Kingdom on earth for true lasting peace on Earth when we will have a loving World Leader the Lord Jesus Christ.
The 2nd of November 2017 was the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration in which Britain declared their intent to provide Palestine as the national home for the Jewish people. Nearly six years later the League of Nations, which later became the United Nations, gave Britain the Mandate to impliment the Balfour Declaration to establish a national home for the Jewish people.
In April 2018 the Jewish Nation celebrated 70 years in the land of Israel. What was written in the Bible about this and the foretelling Israels future?
